All our food is freshly prepared and at peak times, you may have to wait a little longer than you’re used to. Our food is worth the wait so come and dine with us when you’re in the mood for a relaxed breakfast or leisurely lunch/dinner.
We opened our first café, Irma’s Kitchen, in Kemptown Brighton, in 2017 and are delighted to have now opened Irma’s Café & Bistro at the corner of Cliffe High Street and South Street in Lewes, East Sussex.
Building on the success of award-winning, Irma’s Kitchen, our chef, Nathalie, has drawn on her Guyanese roots and British upbringing to put together a menu of classic breakfast and brunch favourites together with authentic Caribbean dishes at lunch and dinnertimes.
After settling in London in 1962, Nathalie’s mother and chef, Irma, set up her first kitchen at home in Tooting. Every weekend there were orders to fill and, growing up, Nathalie watched her turn out everything from traditional English roast dinners to curry and roti, Guyanese patties to dhal puri. All made with techniques and recipes handed down from generation to generation in the family. These unique recipes have been replicated and further developed by Nathalie at Irma’s Café & Bistro.
Nathalie co-owns Irma’s Café & Bistro with partner, Simon, who was born in Lewes and has long harboured a wish to bring the wonderful deep flavours of Caribbean cooking that he loves, to his hometown, in a relaxed café setting. Simon and Nathalie, together with their friendly and professional team, are proud to welcome you to their café and bistro.
